Linen Facts

LINEN BENEFITS

• Linen is a 100% natural fabric made from the flax plant.
• Over time, linen becomes softer and improves in comfort, unlike many other fabrics which begin to wear thin.
• Linen increases in strength when wet, making it more durable with frequent washing and resulting in greater longevity than other  fabrics. This has made it very popular for baby linen which needs to be washed so often.
• Linen is naturally cooled by evaporation. Nodes in the fibre swell to absorb moisture then release it to the outside, making great for  bedding.
• Linen can absorb 20% of its weight in moisture and still remain dry to the touch. This helps to protect babies from dampness.

LINEN FOR BABY SKIN
• Linen is lint free and does not accumulate static electricity, so it looks and feels great.
• Linen protects against UV rays and is naturally insect repellent.
• The silica in flax gives linen bacteriological properties making it resistant to fungus and bacteria and preventing the fabric from  rotting.
• Linen is hypoallergenic and is a proven barrier to some diseases.
• The flax cell, which makes up linen, is highly compatible with human cells, resulting in a rare ability to heal skin diseases, such as common rash and chronic eczema.
• Linen has high air permeability and heat conductivity which regulates air ventilation. This is effective in dealing with inflammatory condition and reducing fevers.

LINEN FACTS & MYTHS
• High quality linen for bedding has a silk-like quality with no imperfections and a fine thread. It was used for Egyptian Pharoahs and is still found preserved 3000 years later.
• Linen as the general term for bedding is a myth, as many sheets and pillowcases today are made of cotton and synthetic fabrics. The term dates back to an era when linen was the only fabric used for bedding due to its high quality and silk-like texture.

LINEN FOR OUR EARTH
• Linen is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, woven from the flax plant. No part of the plan is wasted during production as the oil, straw and seeds all widely used. This makes it a natural and sustainable resource that’s good for you and the earth.
• Linen is biodegradable and recyclable
• Production of linen uses up to 20 times less water and energy then any other cotton or synthetic fabric
